What are the Advantages of Centrifugal Pumps?

Centrifugal pumps are well suited for a wide variety of applications and they are available in a multitude of configurations and materials of construction. It is no wonder that they are by far the most common type of pump. They are perfect for home projects such as installing a fountain, water feature or lawn irrigation system. When used in the proper application, centrifugal pumps are safe, reliable, and require only very basic routine maintenance. Here is an example of some of the applications of centrifugal pumps around the landscape and some other advantages you may find helpful:

Centrifugal pumps are often used in water features, fountains, and decorative ponds. Centrifugal pumps designed for this application are usually submersible allowing them to be immersed in water. Their small size and weight allow them to be easily hidden from view by boulders or by installing them in sumps or pits. Pumps in this application also typically require a high volume of water at very low pressure, because centrifugal pumps are so versatile they are well suited for this application.

Centrifugal pumps are also well suited for lawn irrigation systems. While these pumps are larger than most of those used in backyard water features, they can still be easily hidden from view by using faux rock or other prefabricated pump enclosures. Lawn sprinkler applications usually require a more moderate flow rate but at a higher pressure than water feature applications.

Cost is another advantage that centrifugal pumps have over other types of pumps. They cost less to maintain, and the overall initial investment is often less than the cost associated with other types of pumps. This means that centrifugal pumps can be used in all types of projects from major industrial projects to a smaller home project such as a pond or fountain.
